Norbert Peter Haas (born June 25, 1946 in Ludwigsburg ) is a German trauma surgeon.

Career

Haas studied medicine from 1966 to 1972 at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen and the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel . In 1974 he was awarded a Dr. med. PhD. From 1973 to 1992 he worked at the Hannover Medical School . Habilitated in 1983 , he became senior physician in charge and representative of Harald Tscherne in 1985 . In 1987 he was appointed associate professor . From 1992 he was professor for trauma and reconstructive surgery at the Rudolf Virchow University Hospital of the Free University of Berlin and, after the Virchow Clinic was transferred to the Humboldt University in Berlin in 1995, professor for trauma and reconstructive surgery there. With the renewed reorganization of the Berlin university medicine and the merger of all medical faculties, Haas became director of the "Center for Musculoskeletal Surgery" (CMSC, Clinic for Trauma and Reconstructive Surgery and Clinic for Orthopedics) at Charité University Medicine Berlin from 2003 to 2016 . On April 1, 2016, he handed over the management of the CMSC to Michael Schütz .

Other activities and memberships: He has been a member of the Presidium of the German Society for Trauma Surgery since 1988. He has been a member of the Trustee Board of the AO Foundation since 1994. Since 1995 he has been professor for trauma and reconstructive surgery at the medical faculty of the Humboldt University in Berlin . From 1999 to 2000 he was President of the Berlin-Brandenburg Society for Trauma Surgery. He was President of the German Society for Trauma Surgery (DGU) in 2000. He has been a permanent member of the Presidium of the DGCh since 2000. From 2001 to 2002 he was the first chairman of the Berlin Surgical Society, the association of surgeons in Berlin and Brandenburg. For five years, from 2001 to 2006, he was a member of the executive committee of the German Society for Orthopedics and Traumatology (DGOOC). He was President of the German Society for Surgery (DGCh) from 2002 to 2003. Also in 2003, he became a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the German Medical Association. He has been Adjunct Professor at the University of Technology Brisbane / Australia since 2005. From 2007 to 2013 he was a Senator of the German Research Foundation and a member of the main committee of the DFG. Since 2006 he has been one of the managing directors of Langenbeck-Virchow-Haus GbR.

He has been Chairman of the Board of the Center for Sports Science and Sports Medicine Berlin (CSSB) and Senator for life of the German Society for Surgery since 2007. He has been Chairman of the Julius Wolff Institute Berlin since 2008. He has also been a member of the ADAC Advisory Board since 2008 . He has been on the Board of Directors at Harvard University Boston since 2009 . In 2009 he was awarded the Dieffenbach bust of the DGU. From 2010 to 2012 he was President of the International AO Foundation Switzerland. Since 2011 he has been a member of the Scientific Advisory Board for Sanitary and Health Care at the Federal Minister of Defense (Defense Medical Advisory Board). He was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class in 2012. From 2013 to 2014 he was again chairman of the Berlin Surgical Society, the association of surgeons in Berlin and Brandenburg. Since 2013 he has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the German Tinnitus Foundation Charité.

Norbert Haas and his wife Judith, doctor and professor of neurology , have two grown daughters.

Honorary memberships

Haas is an honorary member of the Swiss Society for Surgery, the Austrian AO, the German Association for Orthopedic Sports Traumatology and the German Society for Trauma Surgery (DGU). He is a founding member (2008) and honorary member of the German Society for Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery (DGOU). He is also a corresponding member of the Orthopedic Trauma Association (USA). He is also a member of the advisory board of the European Surgical Association.
