Horst Hamelmann

Horst Hamelmann (born May 26, 1924 in Gütersloh ) is a German surgeon .

Life

He attended the Domgymnasium Kolberg from 1934 and finished school with the Abitur in 1942. He studied in 1943/44 at the Friedrich Wilhelms University in Berlin and the Karl Ferdinand University in Prague and from 1945 to 1948 at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Munster. Approved in 1948, he received his doctorate in Münster in 1949. He began his training in surgery and internal medicine at the Bielefeld City Hospitals (teacher: Lamprecht, Wolf). In 1953 he went to Rudolf Zenker at the Philipps University in Marburg . On the occasion of Zenker's appointment to the chair, Hamelmann moved with him in 1958 to the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , where he completed his habilitation in 1961. Appointed associate professor in 1967, he was appointed to Philipps University in Marburg / Lahn in 1969. The prospect of better political framework conditions moved him, in 1978 he was appointed to the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel . to accept. In the same year, the new building of the Kiel Surgery began, which was inaugurated in 1986. At the same time, Hamelmann began to expand experimental surgery as a newly designed surgery department. In the summer of 1980 Hamelmann chaired the 125th meeting of the Association of Northwest German Surgeons . In 1988/89 he was President of the German Society for Surgery and headed the annual meeting in Munich in 1989. He lives in Kiel-Suchsdorf . Hamelmann was married to Ingrid Hamelmann, b. Essen († 2009), with whom he has 5 children and 12 grandchildren. His son Wulf Hamelmann is a qualified surgeon and chief physician in Kassel, his son Eckard Hamelmann is a professor of paediatrics and chief physician at the Children's Center Bethel in Bielefeld.
