history

Hermann Kümmell from the Eppendorf General Hospital and Fritz König from the Altona General Hospital initiated the Association of Northwest German Surgeons in 1908 . Friedrich Pels Leusden and Wilhelm Anschütz also belonged to the closest founding circle . With the approval of the directing colleagues in Kiel, Rostock, Bremen and Lübeck, the association was founded on January 23, 1909 in Hamburg. It promotes practical and scientific concerns in surgery and their collaboration with the neighboring subjects. It met three times a year until the First World War , and twice a year from 1921. In 1946 Carl Ritter led the first post-war conference in Büren (Westphalia) . External conference locations were Danzig (1929), Stettin (1937) and Berlin (1960, 1972, 1981, 1991). To thank them for decades of training in Germany, the Swedish surgeons invited their Northwest German colleagues to their summer conference in Lund in 1927. The conference venues in Sweden were Gothenburg (1959) and Malmö (1974). Since 1951, the association has met in winter in Hamburg and in summer at different locations in northern Germany. In 1993 it merged with the Scientific Society for Surgery at the Universities of Greifswald and Rostock, which was established in 1959 . In December 1995 she set up the research and study foundation named after Günther Haenisch . After Wolfgang Teichmann , Heinz-Jürgen Schröder is chairman of the foundation . In addition to poster prizes, the association has been awarding the Hermann Kümmell Prize for assistant doctors since 1967 . In 2015 the company was renamed the Association of North German Surgeons (NDCH).
