Heinrich Kuntzen

Heinrich Kuntzen (born January 11, 1893 in Hannoversch Münden ; † May 9, 1977 in Jena ) was a German surgeon and university professor.

Life

From 1913 Kuntzen studied medicine at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg and the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . After participating in World War I from 1914 to 1918, he moved to Rostock University in 1919 . With a doctoral thesis in pathology, he was promoted to Dr. med. PhD. From 1921 he was assistant to his doctoral supervisor Werner Hueck and went with him to the University of Leipzig . In 1923 he married Elisabeth Becker . He completed his training in surgery with Erwin Payr . He qualified as a professor in 1929 and was a private lecturer for seven years . From 1936 to 1945 he was a non-scheduled associate professor in Leipzig. In 1939 he became head of the surgical clinic of the Chemnitz municipal clinics . As a senior medical officer in the Wehrmacht , he was taken prisoner in the United States . From 1945 to 1951 he headed the surgical department of the city hospital at Küchwald in Chemnitz. The Friedrich Schiller University Jena in the state of Thuringia (1920–1952) appointed him to the chair for surgery in 1951 . He was director of the University Surgical Clinic for eleven years. From 1955 he was a corresponding, from 1959 a full member of the German Academy of Sciences in Berlin.
