Herbert Imig

Herbert Imig (born April 26, 1939 in Bonn ) is a German surgeon.

Life

Imig studied medicine from 1959 to 1964 at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität and the Freie Universität Berlin . After the state examination (1965) and his doctorate (1966) he was approved in 1967 in Berlin. After two years in general trauma surgery at Wilmersdorf Hospital, he went to Engelskirchen in 1971. In the Aggertalklinik (R. Gießler) he had contact with vascular surgery for the first time. 1972 moved to Georg Heberer at the Surgical University Clinic in Cologne. Specialist in surgery since 1974, he completed his habilitation in 1976 with Heberer's successor, Heinz Pichlmaier . With the recognition of trauma surgery and vascular surgery, he was senior physician in charge for three years. The Harburg General Hospital appointed him in 1980 as chief physician in the department for general, vascular and thoracic surgery. Adjunct professor since 1983 , he made the Harburg Clinic into a well-known vascular center during his 23 years in office. In 1985 he was chairman of the 136th meeting of the Association of Northwest German Surgeons . In Hamburg he chaired the annual conference (1990) and the three-country conference (2001) of the German Society for Vascular Surgery and Vascular Medicine . 1988–1993 and 2003–2008 he was secretary of the German Society for Vascular Surgery. From 1999 to 2003 he was the first secretary (= president) of the Association of Northwest German Surgeons. He was a member of the Presidia of the German Society for Surgery (1984–1986) and the Professional Association of German Surgeons (2003–2008). His memories are worth reading.
