Eike Sebastian Debus

Eike Sebastian Debus (born May 16, 1962 in Marburg ) is a German surgeon and university professor.

Life

As the son of the Germanist Friedhelm Debus , Debus started school in Groningen (province of Friesland). After moving to primary schools in Dautphetal, Schierensee and Mielkendorf, he came to the Kiel School of Academics in 1972 . After graduating from high school in May 1981, he studied medicine at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel and at the Mayo Clinic . After the practical year at the University Hospital Zurich , he passed the state examination in June 1988. Approved in the same month, he served 14 months as a medical officer in the German Navy in Mürwik . In June 1989 he was promoted to Dr. med. PhD. On November 1, 1989, he went to Hans Konrad Müller-Hermelink for a year in the pathology department of the Würzburg University Hospital . After ten months in surgery at the Philipps University of Marburg , he worked for Arnulf Thiede in Würzburg surgery for over 12 years from 1991 . In 1999 he completed his habilitation. In May 2003 he became head of general, vascular and visceral surgery at the Harburg General Hospital . In 2007 he headed the 180th, 2011 the 188th and 2017 the 200th conference of the Association of Northwest German Surgeons . Since 2013 he has been the first secretary (= president) of the association. On October 1, 2009, he was appointed to the Chair of Vascular Surgery at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf . In 2013/14 he was President of the German Society for Vascular Surgery and Vascular Medicine and at the same time a member of the Presidium of the German Society for Surgery . Since 2015 he has been Secretary General of the European Society for Vascular Surgery . His main scientific areas of work are vascular health care research, the therapy of diseases of the aorta and peripheral arterial occlusive disease, and wound healing .

Chamber music

From 1980 to 1982 Debus studied double bass and piano at the same time at the Lübeck University of Music . In 1981 he won first prize in piano accompaniment at the national youth music competition . As a student he played the piano concerto (Schumann) in Kiel Castle . He makes music with his brothers in the Debus Trio. With three colleagues he forms the Quartetto Vasculare . The piano quartet was founded in 2009 on the occasion of the 25th annual conference of the German Society for Vascular Surgery in Munich. Richard Brandl (violin) is a phlebologist in Munich, Martin Storck (viola) vascular surgeon in Karlsruhe and Sebastian Schellong (violoncello) angiologist in Dresden. In 2010 a CD was released with Mozart's piano quartet in G minor KV 478 and Schumann's E flat major quartet op. 47; the daughter Felicitas Debus (violoncello) was involved.
