Christoph Eggers (born September 16, 1943 in Schwerin ) is a German surgeon .

Life

Growing up in Schwerin, Eggers was not allowed to take a high school diploma in the GDR for political reasons. That is why he first became a concrete construction worker and graduated from high school on the side. Always the medicine in view, he worked as an auxiliary nurse in the operating room of the hospital Treuenbrietzen , Potsdam district . The clinic finally delegated him to the Charité to study . After obtaining his license to practice medicine, he fled to West Germany in 1971 with a false passport . He came to Hamburg and worked as an assistant doctor in pathology and anesthesiology at the St. Georg General Hospital . In 1973 he began his surgical training under Hans-Wilhelm Buchholz in the AK St. Georg. In 1976 he moved to the Hamburg Albertinen Hospital as part of his general surgical training. In 1979 he returned to AK St. Georg as a specialist in surgery / trauma surgery. In 1981 Dietmar Wolter sent him to Davos for a research project on bone transplantation . For his laboratory work in experimental surgery under Stephan Perren , he was awarded the prize of the Working Group for Osteosynthesis Questions. The work was also the basis of his habilitation at the University of Hamburg .

In 1982 Eggers completed his neurosurgical training and became senior physician in the department for trauma, reconstructive and hand surgery of the St. Georg AK under Dietmar Wolter, whose successor he was in 1989. In 1992 he was appointed associate professor at the University of Hamburg . In the years that followed, he supplemented trauma surgery and hand and plastic surgery with sections for neurosurgery , visceral surgery and orthopedics (2007). Relevant experienced section heads worked under his overall responsibility. On May 2, 2005, Eggers was appointed part-time medical director of the Asklepios Clinic St. Georg .

He retired on October 1, 2008. His successor was Armin Schildhauer , who could count on a call to the University of Graz before he took up his duties . When he received it and after a few months Hamburg-St. Georg left, Eggers was asked to act as the acting clinic manager. He did this until the summer of 2010. Since then he has been the founding rector of the MSH Medical School Hamburg .

Eggers is involved in the Association of Northwest German Surgeons , the German Society for Trauma Surgery , the German Spine Society and the Working Group for Angular Stable Osteosynthesis (awiso).

Eggers has always remained connected to his hometown Schwerin. He often sails on Lake Schwerin .
