Experimental surgery

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Experimental surgery is clinical project research using animal experiments. It serves to improve understanding of pathophysiological mechanisms, for example in blood circulation , microcirculation , shock , blood substitutes , neurotraumatology , gastrointestinal immunology , in intensive care medicine , in organ transplantation and in lung diseases, as well as the development of new methods from basic research for clinical surgery. The correct selection of the animal model is of crucial importance here. Maximum transferability to the patient situation must be guaranteed in order to be able to extrapolate the results obtained on animals to humans.

Experimental surgery has developed as an experimental basis that is independent of basic research. The British doctor John Hunter is considered to be the founder . Ferdinand Sauerbruch had established a department for experimental surgery at his surgical clinic in 1922. The first chairs for this department were established in 1969 at the LMU in Munich and at the University of Cologne .
