List of grape varieties

Juhfark (German: Lammerschwanz ) is an autochthonous Hungarian white wine variety . It was cultivated in large parts of Hungary until the phylloxera attack at the end of the 19th century, but is now only widespread in the Somló wine-growing region . In 2011 the vineyard area was 186 hectares.

The name Juhfark and its literal translation, Lammerschwanz, is derived from the long, cylindrical shape of the grapes, which curve at their ends. The vine brings relatively high yields, but is also sensitive to frost and susceptible to downy mildew . In Somló, the Juhfark transports the mineral and intense character of the volcanic rock, while it produces lighter wines on calcareous soils. The dry white wines have a high acid content and are described as "relatively neutral" and rustic. Matured and ventilated in the barrel, however, the Juhfark produces elegant and complex wines.

The synonyms for Juhfark include Bacsó , Balaton szőlő , thin- shelled and papai .
