José Vouillamoz (born September 3, 1971 in Saillon , Canton of Valais ) is a Swiss biologist and expert in genetic studies of grape varieties . Since 2008 he has been working at the Agroscope's Institute for Crop Science IPB .

Life

José Vouillamoz studied botany from 1990 to 1994 at the University of Lausanne , where he obtained his licentiate degree and deepened this until 2001 at the same place of study through a taxonomic training in biosystematics and the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).

Vouillamoz then worked for a year as a postdoctoral fellow on a research project at the Institute of Carole P. Meredith at the University of California, Davis, on genetic analysis for the identification of Valais grape varieties using microsatellites . From November 2002 to February 2003 he returned to Switzerland to work as a research assistant at the University of Neuchâtel . In a further post doc phase until 2004 at the Istituto Agrario di San Michele all'Adige (today Fondazione Edmund Mach ) in collaboration with Patrick Edward McGovern from the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archeology and Anthropology , he devoted himself to genetic studies on the domestication of the noble grapevine in the vicinity East and again genetic analysis to identify Italian grape varieties, especially Sangiovese . In 2006 Heredity magazine published an article on the genealogy of grapevines, which he wrote in 2005 together with MS Grando and describes the relationship between Pinot and Syrah.

For another five years he worked as an ampelographer in Neuchâtel, among other things on the hypothesis of the origin of the Gutedel in the Lake Geneva area, before moving to the Agroscope Changins-Wädenswil ACW in 2008 to work in the research group on berries, medicinal and aromatic plants.
