Mini vineyard
The municipality is home to the smallest official vineyard in Switzerland, which is located on the Colline Ardente ('Burning Hill') above the medieval village center. The Vigne à Farinet is 1.615 m² and is planted with three vines. It is owned by the Dalai Lama . Celebrities such as Claudia Cardinale , Roger Moore , Zinédine Zidane or Michael Schumacher take care of the maintenance .
marble
To the west of Saillon, marble had been mined in a narrow layer of layers since the second half of the 19th century . The underground extraction point is about 400 meters above the village on a steep wall. Due to its appearance and the particularly difficult mining situation, it was considered one of the most unusual natural stones in Europe around 1900. In addition to examples in its region, it is also used in Bern ( Bundeshaus ), Paris ( Opéra Garnier ) and Aachen ( Cathedral , Palatine Chapel).
