Attractions
On a hill above the village are the ruins of Saxon Castle . The lords of the place have been known since the beginning of the 13th century. They sold it to the Savoy around 1266. Count Philipp had new fortifications built in 1279, of which only the round donjon has been preserved. In 1475 Saxon was destroyed and the town that surrounded the castle was abandoned.
Below the donjon is the St-Maurice chapel , which was mentioned as a branch of Saint-Pierre-de-Clages as early as 1153 . The building consists of a Romanesque nave and a late Gothic choir, which was rebuilt around 1530–1540.
In the 19th century, Saxon became very important as a thermal bathing resort. The former casino on Kantonsstrasse bears witness to this .
