Art piper

Whistler are people who are in a complex possible melody in different keys without technical aids whistle can. Until the 19th century, musicians who were employed by a city and organized in a guild were referred to as art pipers. The terms town piper , town musician and town musician were used with the same meaning .

Artistic pipers were very popular in the time of the Schrammel brothers. They appeared in the Viennese variety theaters, cabarets and popular theaters. Their whistling was reminiscent of birdsong . The most famous art piper in Vienna performed with the brothers Josef Schrammel and Johann Schrammel under the name Baron Jean (own Johann Tranquillini (1855–1895)). In Germany , the art pipes is rather unknown, although there in the 1940s Ilse Werner was a very popular Kunstpfeiferin. The Belgian singer, guitarist and parodist Bobbejaan (also “Bobby Jaan”) was a well-known art piper. As a result of a surgical procedure, he lost his virtuoso talent.

Lips von Lipstrill died in 2005, Hans Hofmann (born in 1946) specialized in jazz and classical music. Nikolaus Habjan , born in 1987, is currently Austria's youngest artificial piper. His specialty is opera literature.

terminology

The International Philharmonic Society for the Art of Whistling distinguishes the art of whistling from artificial whistling and technically assigns artificial whistling to the flute family .

World Whistlers Convention

There is an international world championship in artificial whistling under the name World Whistlers Convention . The Dutchman Geert Chatrou had already won this competition three times and is now on the jury of this event.
