Nikolaus Habjan (born September 24, 1987 in Graz ) is an Austrian director , puppeteer and art piper .

Live and act

Nikolaus Habjan grew up in Graz and attended the BRG Carneri here . From 2006 to 2010 he studied music theater directing at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna .

In 2003, he learned at a puppet workshop by Neville Tranter dealing with moving mouth puppets , which he often used in his plays. His career began in 2008 as an assistant director and evening director at the Schubert Theater in Vienna - Alsergrund . In collaboration with its director Simon Meusburger , Schlag sie tot was created , a figure piece for which he both built the puppets and played on the stage. This was followed by other pieces at the Schubert Theater and guest appearances, including at the Theater am Lend in Graz. From 2009 to 2016 Habjan was co-director of the Schubert Theater.

In May 2010 Habjan worked at the Mainz State Theater as a puppet trainer for the production The Bartered Bride by director Tatjana Gürbaca . His debut as a puppeteer at the Burgtheater Vienna took place in February 2012 in Fool of Love , directed by Matthias Hartmann and Michael Schachermaier.

The production of the Schubert Theater F. Zawrel - hereditary and socially inferior by Nikolaus Habjan and Simon Meusburger received the Nestroy Theater Prize 2012 in the category Best Off-Production. In the same theater Habjan organized art pipe evenings under the title “I don't give a damn about the opera”.

On June 29, 2014, Nikolaus Habjan and Simon Meusburger received the Aargauer Förderpreis for young puppet theater greenhorns . Around 24 groups from seven European nations, Israel, Chile and the United States have chosen to Newbie advertised, 2014.

The production of the Schauspielhaus Graz Das Misunderstanding by Albert Camus was nominated for the best federal state production at the 2015 Nestroy Theater Prize.

With the play Böhm written by Paulus Hochgatterer , Habjan was nominated in 2018 (also for a production by the Schauspielhaus Graz ) in the category best federal state production .
