Ivor Bolton

Ivor Bolton (born May 17, 1958 in Blackrod, Lancashire , England ) is a British conductor .

life and work

Bolton studied at Cambridge University , the Royal College of Music and the National Opera Studio in London. In 1984 he founded St. James's Baroque Players . From 1992 to 1997 he was music director of the Glyndebourne Touring Opera , and from 1994 to 1996 chief conductor of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra . From autumn 2004 to 2015/16 he was chief conductor of the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg . In 2015 Bolton became music director of the Madrid Opera on a five-year contract. Ivor Bolton has been chief conductor of the Dresden Festival Orchestra since it was founded in 2012 .

Starting with the 2016/17 season, Bolton is bound as chief conductor of the Basel Symphony Orchestra for four years .

Ivor Bolton has a son with his wife, Tess Knighton, a musicologist and critic. The couple live in Barcelona .
