Dominik Günther

Dominik Günther (* 1973 in Bonn ) is a German theater director , acting lecturer and author .

Director

Günther studied social sciences and German studies with a focus on theater studies at Bielefeld University . During his studies he worked as an assistant director at the Bielefeld Theater . He then moved to the Thalia Theater in Hamburg in the same position and also assisted at the Schauspiel Bonn . He has been working as a freelance director since 2005 and founded, among other things, the “Neandertal Theater Hamburg”, whose first production Yard Girl by Rebecca Prichard was invited by the Thalia Theater Hamburg.

Since then he has realized productions at the Thalia Theater Hamburg, the Deutsches Theater Berlin, the Theater Heidelberg , the Theater Junge Generation Dresden, the Landestheater Linz , the Theater Bern , the Theater Osnabrück , the Landestheater Tübingen , the Theater Magdeburg and the Theater Aachen . In 2014 and 2015 he worked at the Young State Theater Hanoi in Vietnam at the invitation of the Goethe Institute .

Lecturer

Dominik Günther has been working as a lecturer for scene and role at the Hamburg Drama Studio Frese since 2005. Since 2009 he has been teaching for the State Working Group on Game and Theater NRW e. V. as a lecturer for acting and directing.

Music and show

Dominik Günther has been singing and writing texts for the glam punk entertainment band Nik Neandertal since 1995 and has hosted a karaoke show. He is also one of the founding members of the Hamburg Kiez cult event Rock & Wrestling, which was launched in 2003.

Nominations and Awards

  • In 2008, his production Hikikomori by Holger Schober at the Thalia Theater Hamburg was nominated for the German theater prize Der Faust .
  • In 2009 he won the Austrian Stella theater prize and the bestOFFstyria special prize from the jury in Graz with his production of Clyde and Bonnie by Holger Schober.
  • In 2010, his Heidelberg work Spring Awakening in the version by Nuran David Calis was invited to the 17th workshop days of the children's and youth theaters in Leipzig.
  • In 2011, the production was invited to the Augen Blick Mal! Festival in Berlin.
