German children's and youth theater meeting
The German Children's and Youth Theater Meeting is a biennial event in Berlin to which selected theater productions for children's and youth theater from all over Germany and abroad are invited. The organizer is the Children's and Youth Theater Center , which was founded in 1989 by ASSITEJ Federal Republic of Germany eV , the association of theater for children and young people. The patron was the then Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker .
Program and organization
With an invitation to the theater meeting, remarkable theater productions of the last two theater seasons are awarded. The selection is made by a board of trustees of the children's and youth theater center, which is composed of theater scholars , directors , theater directors , actors , dramaturges and theater critics. The invited groups show their performances at various Berlin venues that are involved in the field of children's and youth theater, including Theater an der Parkaue and Grips-Theater .
In the 1990s, the Theatertreffen became an important platform for new productions in children's and youth theater. The festival is accompanied by media education projects with Berlin youth and schoolchildren.
