The Theaterhaus Frankfurt is a venue for children's and youth theater in Frankfurt am Main . It was founded in 1987 as a Freie Theaterhaus gGmbH .

history

The Freie Theaterhaus was opened on March 1, 1991, as a venue and production site for independent theater ensembles from Frankfurt am Main, at its current location at Schützenstrasse 12 in Frankfurt's Fischerfeldviertel . The director is Gordon Vajen, who founded the Freie Theaterhaus gGmbH in 1987. The shareholders from 1987 to 2005 were the Klappmaul Theater and the Theater Die Traumtänzer as well as the TheaterGrueneSosse since 1987 and the Theaterhaus Ensemble since 2008.

The repertoire for the first 12 years consisted of children's theater, youth theater as well as spoken, music and dance theater for adults. The Klappmaul Theater, which in 2005 ceased its gaming operations has, with the moving-mouth puppets and even developed puppet theater influenced the children's theater repertoire of the theater building. The TheaterGrueneSosse was mainly specialized in youth theater. In addition to the theater, the dream dancers, who premiered both comedies and dramas in the theater house, were the Aaron Theater, the Mutare Musiktheater Ensemble, the Vivienne Newport Company , the Freie Tanztheater Frankfurt, the November 9th Ensemble and many Frankfurt artists regularly with their pieces represented in the evening schedule.

Theater groups from home and abroad were guests at festivals and special occasions. In addition, there was a cooperation with the New Music department of the Hessischer Rundfunk and the Frankfurt Jazz Initiative organized its “Jazz Night Café” concert series in the Theaterhaus. The Theaterhaus has been producing its own plays for children and young people since 1994, and the Theaterhaus Ensemble was founded in the summer of 2000 to bring plays for this target group to the stage. Since the 2003/2004 season, the Theaterhaus has concentrated entirely on children's and youth theater.

The Theaterhaus Ensemble, the TheaterGrueneSosse and the Young Ensemble of the TheaterGrueneSosse mainly make up the repertoire of the Theaterhaus Frankfurt. Regular guests are the La Senty Menti theater, the actual puppet theater and other Frankfurt theater groups. Theaters from different countries present their productions during the annual Rhein-Main International Children's and Youth Theater Festival "Strong Plays", of which the Theaterhaus is one of the founders.

On two stages in the Theaterhaus with 80 to 120 seats, depending on the production, and on the stage in the Löwenhof in the Bornheim district, around 280 performances for all age groups (from 1 year) take place each season. The theater offer is aimed at families, children's institutions and schools. The pieces are accompanied by theater pedagogy as they develop . In addition to going to the theater, children and adults can take part in an accompanying educational program.

financing

The Theaterhaus Frankfurt is financed by donations from Frankfurt citizens and companies, mainly from funding from the City of Frankfurt am Main, and was also supported by the federal government as a model project.
