The BG / BRG Carnerigasse (or BG / BRG Carneri ) is an Austrian high school in Graz with a focus on science and language.

history

The school was founded in 1902 as K. k. 3. State high school founded in Schulgasse 1 in Graz. After the K. k. 2. State high school ( Bundesgymnasium and Bundesrealgymnasium Lichtenfels ) in Lichtenfelsgasse 1909 in K. k. 1. Staatsgymnasium was renamed, the school was named K. k. 2. State high school .

In 1910 the school moved to Oeverseegasse 28. In 1921 the K. k. Renamed 2. Staatsgymnasium to 2. Staatsgymnasium , and it was followed by a Unterrealgymnasium. In 1938 it was converted into a 4th high school for boys , the grammar school was spun off and housed as a ditch department in the disbanded episcopal seminary and temporarily subordinated to the 1st state grammar school (Akademisches Gymnasium).

In 1945 the school was renamed the 2nd Bundesgymnasium and temporarily moved to Keplerstrasse 1 and later to Kirchengasse 1. In 1962, director Max Kößler moved into the new, own institution building in Carnerigasse, whereupon the school was finally renamed the Bundesgymnasium Carnerigasse from 1980 .

In 1992, a secondary school with a focus on natural sciences was set up. Since then the school has been called BG / BRG Carnerigasse.

classes

The BG / BRG Carnerigasse offers the choice between a linguistic and a scientific branch for the third school year in the second grade. The linguistic branch again has the choice between the languages Latin and French , the realistic branch has the same choice, but for them these subjects are only taught from the fifth grade.

Laboratory lessons (in physics, chemistry and biology) are only given to students in the so-called realistic (natural science) branch. Chemistry is taught in the third and fourth grades in the natural sciences, but only in the fourth grade in the linguistic branch.

From the sixth grade onwards, various elective subjects are available for the students, such as ancient Greek, Spanish, computer science or chemistry. The Cambridge English Language Assessment , the entrepreneur driving license and the ECDL are also offered.

Olympiads and other projects

Many students of the BG / BRG Carneri regularly take part in natural science Olympiads, such as the Physics , Chemistry or Mathematics Olympics . The BG / BRG Carneri also often takes part in various other projects, such as the VCÖ project competitions or Fascination Technology .

Other projects are the non-smoking peers and career orientation .
