Life and career path

The multi-instrumentalist Riedel started playing the piano at the age of 5. During his school days he began to write his own songs and learned a variety of other instruments independently. Soon he played in numerous bands of different musical styles as a bassist, guitarist, keyboardist, drummer and often took over the vocals.

Bands

  • 1984-1995 The Frits. The Frits were formed in 1984 and were initially assigned to fun punk. Later, influenced by Riedel's passion for reggae and the British TwoTone movement and its bands such as The Specials, Bad Manners + Madness, they switched more and more to ska. The first successes came after the single ´Life of Brian´ and the 2nd album ´The Rude Message´ were released on the Bochum label Rude Records in 1989, and the band did smaller tours in German-speaking countries. For their third album ´Little idiots´, The Frits switched to the Berlin label Pork Pie in 1991, catapulting themselves into the ranks of leading bands on the national and international ska scene. In 1993 the third studio album ´Not enough for you´ followed, which the band recorded in Osgathorpe / Sheffield, for which they were able to win over Bad Manners producer Roger Lomas, and also played two songs on Specials bassist Horrace Panter. Until their breakup in 1995, The Frits released 5 albums and 2 singles.

Theater music

In 2001 , for the production of the Ruhr Triennale "Germany your songs", directed by Matthias Hartmann , we were looking for singers who were versatile. That was the beginning of Riedel's musical activity at the theater and a collaboration with Hartmann and his wife Alexandra Liedtke that continues to this day . Participation in productions at the Schauspielhaus Bochum soon followed , such as B. " 1979 ", " Der Hauptmann von Köpenick " (with Otto Sander in the leading role), "That'll be fine" (by Sibylle Berg ), " Iwanow ", "A Tribute to Johnny Cash" and others. v. a. In 2005 he worked at the same time at the Schauspielhaus Zürich and the Grillo-Theater in Essen. In Essen, he worked for the first time with the in-house director at the time, David Bösch , for whom he has since accompanied a number of productions. In 2009 he moved to the Burgtheater in Vienna with Matthias Hartmann . There were also other engagements that took him to Salzburg, Munich, Hamburg, Berlin, Stuttgart, Kaiserslautern, Karlsruhe, Oberhausen, Düsseldorf and many other places.
