Alpha Boy School was a ska band from Bochum founded in 1999 . This name was derived from the Jamaican Alpha Boys School , based on the influence it had on reggae music . After separating from singer Karsten Riedel , the band played several concerts under the name Alpha Boys feat. Joe Scholes until they broke up in early 2010.
history
The band was founded in 1999 around Karsten Riedel, who previously played in the Bochum band The Frits . With their debut album "Big Fight", Alpha Boy School quickly gained notoriety within the scene, which was partly due to the fact that the former lead singer Riedel had previously worked on various projects in the ska and reggae scene.
Alpha Boy School play ska , 2-tone and reggae . The texts are in English and are more entertaining than political.
In addition to concerts in Germany, they also toured in Hungary, Poland and Japan, for example.
Karsten Riedel also composes theater music , for example for performances at the Schauspielhaus Bochum and the Thalia Theater (Hamburg) or for a cello quartet from the Bochum Symphony Orchestra . As a theater musician he works with the director David Bösch .
At the end of 2008 Riedel separated from the band. In his place came Joe Scholes, who was formerly head of the ska band The Braces . Under the name “Alpha Boys feat. Joe Scholes “they gave concerts until the end of 2009 before the band split up in February 2010.
