Jeanette Baroness Lips from Lipstrill
Jeanette Baroness Lips von Lipstrill (born November 6, 1924 in Wallern , Bohemia as Rudolf Schmid , † March 8, 2005 in Vienna ) was Austria's last professional female art piper .
Life
Schmid completed an apprenticeship as a photographer . At the age of 17 he was drafted into the German armed forces and discharged there after suffering from typhoid fever . As a displaced Sudeten German, he came to Munich and began a career as a female impersonator.
Schmid was an integral part of the variety scene. In the most successful time he was u. a. with Frank Sinatra , Bob Hope , Édith Piaf , Marlene Dietrich and Josephine Baker on stage. During a guest performance at the Hamburg Hansa Theater , he impressed Shah Reza Pahlavi , who hired him to Tehran . Schmid became a star in the Orient and lived in Cairo for 15 years . In 1964, he underwent sex reassignment surgery there .
She continued her international stage career as Baroness Lips von Lipstrill. André Heller invited her to his winter garden tour in 1994 and brought Lips to Broadway . In 2004 she received the Decoration of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria.
Lipstrill's Lips died of complications from the flu at the age of 80.
