A hand flute is a "musical instrument" formed with the hands. It is also called the hand ocarina or hand whistle . By shaping a Helmholtz resonator with your hands and blowing air into your hands through a small gap between your thumbs, you get a sound. There are two different hand posture techniques: the cupped hand technique and the clasped hand technique. The pitch generated depends on the position of the hands, which changes the size of the Helmholtz resonator. The smaller the Helmholtz resonator, the higher the tone. The best hand flutists in the world have a range of up to 2.5 octaves. Owl or cuckoo calls are often imitated with this whistling technique .

Mitsuhiro Mori is a hand flute player and performs with the group "Childhood".

Peter Hassell has a large repertoire of classical music and uses the technique of clasped hands.
