Neurotraumatology

The Neurotraumatology ( Greek νεῦρον neuron , German , nerve ' , τραύμα trauma , German , wound' and -logie λόγος lógos , German , Word ' , the doctrine of', 'Reason', meaning ') is a branch of medicine teaching the forms, mechanisms, diagnosis and treatment of injury or damage to the brain , spinal cord or peripheral nervous system caused by external trauma . Central topics in neurotraumatology are severe traumatic brain injuries and traumatic paraplegia . The treatment of the consequences of such damage is often long-term and requires interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary collaboration in specialized rehabilitation clinics . The scientific and practical work in the field is u. a. by the German Society for Neurotraumatology and Clinical Neurorehabilitation e. V. funded.
