history

The first hospital in Bielefeld was built in 1843 at the foot of the Sparrenberg . Further buildings followed, and the nursing school was opened in 1916. In the 1930s and after the end of the war , in addition to an increasing number of beds, new clinics and institutes were set up, around 1949 the pathological clinic. Another expansion push followed in the 1960s with the opening of the anesthesiology department (1962) and trauma surgery (1963). Increasing capacity utilization forced the city of Bielefeld to build a new main building; the architecture competition in 1970 was followed in 1978 by the building, which was finally available in 1987. In the meantime, the municipal clinics were named the academic teaching hospital of the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster in 1977. The conversion into the municipal clinics according to GmbH took place in 1997 in connection with the merger of the Bielefeld-Mitte municipal clinics and the Rosenhöhe municipal hospital . In 2009 the name was changed to Klinikum Bielefeld acc. GmbH .

The rescue helicopter Christoph 13 has been stationed at the Rosenhöhe Clinic since 1976 . The hospital in neighboring Halle (Westphalia) has also been part of the clinic since January 1, 2010 .

A cooperation agreement was concluded with Bielefeld University in July 2019 . The aim is to set up a university hospital OWL in order to ensure the practical training of medical students from 2021.
