The Capella hospitalis is the former hospital chapel of the hospital center in Bielefeld district center . It was built in 1899 and restored in 2002, the interior was redesigned in 2003 to a room of silence .

history

The chapel was built by the Gdansk building officer Böttger (or Böttcher ) in neo-Gothic style and opened in 1899, at the same time as the original hospital building.

Initially, the chapel was used for consecration and blessing , sometimes also for baptisms . From 1949 parts of the Institute for Pathology were located in the chapel, and in 1986 the building was listed as a historical monument .

After the end of use in 1990, the chapel stood empty and threatened to deteriorate. An association founded in 1999 financed the restoration, which was carried out from 2002 to 2003, from donations.

The artist Elisabeth Masé designed the interior in 2003 as a room of silence . Art exhibitions, concerts and lectures are also held in the chapel and it serves as a conference venue.
