Erich von Redwitz

Erich Freiherr von Redwitz (born April 2, 1883 in Bamberg ; † September 7, 1964 ) was a German surgeon and university professor.

Life

He was the son of a Royal Bavarian Cavalry - General and grandson of Oskar von Redwitz . After graduating from high school in 1902 at the Wilhelmsgymnasium in Munich , Erich v. Redwitz Medicine at the Ludwig Maximilians University , interrupted by a semester at the Christian Albrechts University . In 1908 he passed a "very good" state examination and received his doctorate summa cum laude with a prize thesis from the medical faculty. The experimental work on diseases of the coronary arteries was done by Otto von Bollinger in the pathology department.

He began medical training with Johannes Rückert (1854–1923) in Munich's anatomy department . From the surgeon v. In 1910, Redwitz successfully applied to Anton Eiselsberg for a position in Viennese surgery. Big names have gathered there: Paul Clairmont , Egon Ranzi , Hans von Haberer , Wolfgang Denk , Peter Walzel and Burghard Breitner . Nevertheless, Redwitz left the clinic a year later because, as a Reich German , he saw no prospects in Vienna.

In 1912 he went to Eugen Enderlen in Würzburg . Despite differences in character, a close friendship developed that lasted for over thirty years until Enderlen's death.

During the First World War , v. Redwitz was a medical officer in the fortress hospital in Germersheim , but was called back to Würzburg to represent his boss. In November 1916, in the middle of the war, v. Redwitz habilitation .

Three years later he followed Enderlen as senior physician to Heidelberg . Enderlen's close friendship with the philanthropic internist Ludolf von Krehl was reflected in v. Redwitz 'friendships with Richard Siebeck and Paul Martini .

In 1922 v. Redwitz appointed associate professor and director of the surgical polyclinic of the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich .

In 1928 he accepted a position at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn and became director of the surgical university clinic. As advised by Enderlen, Werner Wachsmuth followed him to Bonn as senior physician . In 1933 v. Redwitz called off the call to Heidelberg. He was an advisory surgeon for the Reichswehr and the Wehrmacht .

In 1953, 70 years ago, he was with great honor emeritus . He spent his retirement at Lake Starnberg .
