The Helios Klinikum Krefeld is a maximum care hospital at Lutherplatz 40 in Krefeld . It is one of the Helios clinics . It is an academic teaching hospital of the Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule (RWTH) in Aachen .

history

In 1828 Anna de Greiff left 5,000 thalers in her will for the construction of a general hospital in Krefeld. The foundation stone was laid on April 29, 1845. In 1847 or 1848 it was completed and opened with 88 beds. Cornelius de Greiff bequeathed 120,000 thalers to the municipal hospital, with which two extensions could be realized in 1867. The surgical clinic was built in 1914 and has housed the dermatology clinic since 1972. In the same year, an infant home with maternal counseling under the direction of the pediatrician Isidor Hirschfelder opened on a different site than the municipal clinics : this infant home later became the children's clinic.

In January 1945, the main building of the Krefeld municipal clinic was destroyed during the war. In 1958, the first central anesthesia department in the Federal Republic of Germany was established in the Krefeld municipal clinic and was headed by Manfred Körner until 1985. In 1968 a new building was built for the Cäcilien Hospital in Hüls, which did not belong to Krefeld until 1975. In 2005 a new operating center with 18 operating theaters was opened for € 34.5 million.

In 2007 the municipal clinics reported a loss of approx. EUR 15.8 million as a result of ordinary business activities. As a result of this economically unfavorable development, the Council of the City of Krefeld decided in November 2007 to sell 74.9 percent of the shares in the Städtische Kliniken Krefeld GmbH to the Helios Kliniken GmbH: A part of the Städtische Kliniken Krefeld GmbH was next to the Städtische Kliniken in Krefeld Downtown also the Cäcilien-Hospital in Krefeld-Hüls, which was founded in 1811. In January 2008 the shareholders' meeting decided to change the company name from Städtische Krankenhäuser Krefeld non-profit GmbH to Helios Klinikum Krefeld GmbH.

After the takeover in November 2007, Helios decided to rebuild large parts of the clinic: most of the facilities, which had previously been spread over 30 buildings, were concentrated in the new building with four main components (two ward blocks, a central building and an entrance building with a connecting main road). the entire modernization cost over 200 million euros. The opening took place in 2014 after a five-year construction period.

In January 2016, the relatives of a 78-year-old patient were incorrectly informed by telephone that she had died.

In mid-2016, as part of a cooperation project between the AOK Rheinland / Hamburg and the Helios Klinikum Krefeld, a special ward for ventilatory weaning for patients who do not need intensive care despite the need for ventilation was opened.

On November 30, 2017, a couple fled the clinic with their two-day-old baby after the youth welfare office had previously taken custody of them.

On July 11, 2019, Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Health Sabine Weiss visited the Lebensluft station at the Helios Klinikum Krefeld.

Structure (facilities, departments, performance data)

In 2015 the house had 1023 beds; 47,957 patients were treated as inpatients, 3,461 semi-inpatients and 65,955 outpatients.

According to the hospital plan of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, the Helios Klinikum Krefeld has 2 operating sites: the Helios Klinikum Krefeld in Krefeld itself (southern Krefeld city center) and the Helios Cäcilien Hospital in Krefeld-Hüls with the following clinics, departments and centers (additions according to the clinic operator ):
