Veržej ( German : Wernsee ) is a municipality in the historic Spodnja Štajerska region in Slovenia and is now part of the statistical region of Pomurska .

The municipality is located in the extreme northeast of Slovenia, south of Murska Sobota and on the right side of the Mur .

Ship mill near Veržej

In the past, many water mills were in operation on the Mur . One of the few preserved ship mills is near Veržej.

Nationwide, the municipality is known above all for the Banovci thermal baths , which, in addition to 2,000 m² of water, also have the only nudist thermal campsite in Europe.
