Werner Budde
Werner Budde (born September 1, 1886 in Constantinople , † August 28, 1960 in Halle (Saale) ) was a German medic. On October 5, 1945, he was appointed full professor at the Medical Faculty of the Martin Luther University Halle by the President of the Province of Saxony , Erhard Hübener , while at the same time being appointed director of the surgical university clinic.
Life
Werner Budde, a son of the physicist Emil Arnold Budde , attended the monastery school in Ilfeld , where he passed the Abitur in 1907 . He then studied medicine in Berlin, Munich and Bonn. Finally, he received in 1912 the state examination and was in the following year for doctor of medicine doctorate , he also received the approbation as a doctor. He then worked at the University Clinic in Halle, from 1914 to 1918 he was a civilian doctor.
In 1919 the surgical university clinic in Halle employed Budde. The next year he completed his habilitation there. Appointed senior physician in 1924, the university hired him a year later as a non-official associate professor. In 1926 he was employed as a senior physician in the surgery department at St. Barbara Hospital, which he remained until 1945.
On July 1, 1937, Budde lost both his teaching license and his professorship due to the Ministry of Science. The reason for this was that he was married to a Jewish woman.
From August to October 1939 Budde was chief physician in the Wurzen reserve hospital. On May 12, 1945 he was appointed by the Americans as head of the surgical clinic at the University of Halle. On October 1, 1945 he was appointed full professor in Halle. In 1946 he was operating as dean and had to endure arguments with the government. The deanery was withdrawn from him in 1947 due to tuberculosis . In 1950 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina .
Retired in 1956, Budde died four years later in Halle at the age of 73. His grave is in the Laurentius cemetery .
