Jörg Kleeff

Jörg Kleeff (* 1969 in Erkelenz ) is a German visceral surgeon. In 2017 he was appointed Professor of Visceral Surgery and Director of the University Clinic and Polyclinic for Visceral, Vascular and Endocrine Surgery at the University Hospital Halle (Saale) .

Life

He began his medical training in 1990 with the preclinical clinic at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen . In Tübingen he became a member of the Catholic student association AV Guestfalia Tübingen in the CV. After completing the Physikum, he moved to the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . There he passed the 3rd state examination in 1996. With a doctoral thesis at the Max von Pettenkofer Institute , he was awarded a Dr. med. PhD. He laid the basis for his scientific work during a two-year research stay in Murray Korc's laboratory at the University of California, Irvine. He completed his specialist training at the Clinic for Visceral and Transplant Surgery at Inselspital in Bern / Switzerland and at the Clinic for General, Visceral and Transplant Surgery at Heidelberg University, both under the direction of Markus W. Büchler . In 2005 he completed his habilitation in Heidelberg. He received the venia legendi for surgery . In the same year he was appointed senior physician at the clinic. In 2007 he moved to the Surgical Clinic and Polyclinic of the Klinikum rechts der Isar at the Technical University of Munich. Since 2010 senior physician in charge, he took over the provisional management of surgery in 2013 . After another stay abroad as a consultant in Hepatobiliary, Pancreatic and General Surgery at the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust , he was appointed to the Chair of Visceral Surgery at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg in 2017 . Since then he has been Director of the University Clinic and Polyclinic for Visceral, Vascular and Endocrine Surgery at the University Clinic in Halle (Saale). At the BG Klinikum Bergmannstrost Halle , he heads the clinic for general, visceral and vascular surgery.

Kleeff is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Surgeons of England . His clinical research focus is on the evidence-based improvement of modern multimodal surgical-oncological therapy concepts for gastrointestinal tumors, especially in pancreatic cancer surgery . In his basic research, he deals with pancreatic carcinogenesis and pancreatic cancer biology, the stromal reaction, inflammation / regeneration, conditional mouse models and preclinical studies.

He is married and has two daughters.
