Perinatal medicine

The Perinatal ( Perinatology ) specializes in health care for pregnant women and fetus shortly before and after birth . Its aim is to further reduce the mortality of children born in the perinatal period.

The period between the 24th week of pregnancy and the 7th day after the birth is known as the perinatal period .

The pioneer of perinatal medicine in Germany is Erich Saling , who founded the German Society for Perinatal Medicine (DGPM) in Berlin in 1967 . The DGPM meets there every two years, the next time from November 28 to 30, 2019.
