Sports ball

The Ball des Sports is a benefit event that has been held annually in the Federal Republic of Germany since 1970 . The organizer is the German Sports Aid Foundation .

Overview

With pure benefit proceeds of over three-quarters of a million euros , which will benefit the Sporthilfe, the Sports Ball is the largest fundraising event in European sport. Around 1,600 invited guests from sports , business , politics , culture and the media currently attend the gala every year . The patron of the event is traditionally the German Federal President .

The Sports Ball was launched in 1970 and has been held every year, usually in February, since then, with the exception of 1991, when it was canceled due to the Gulf War . Since then, the venues have been various festival halls in the Rhine-Main area . Between 2015 and 2017, the Ball des Sports took place in and in front of the Wiesbaden Kurhaus until the renovation of the Rhein-Main-Hallen was completed . In 2018, the ball was held for the first time in the newly built RheinMain CongressCenter , although it was not yet completed at the time.

The ball program is characterized by performances by athletes sponsored by sports aid , demonstrations of various sports as well as artistic and musical performances.
