history

The foundation stone of the previous building, the Rhein-Main-Hallen , was laid in 1956, and the opening in the following year. The building was on the corner of Friedrich-Ebert-Allee and Rheinstrasse . Until the opening of Wiesbaden main station in 1906, the Taunus station and the Rhine station were located here .

The city council of Wiesbaden decided in September 2012 to demolish the existing halls. This began in August 2014. The new building went into operation in early 2018. On December 16, 2015, the city announced that it would rename the new Rhein-Main-Hallen to RheinMain CongressCenter Wiesbaden (RMCC).

In February 2018, the first event, the Sports Ball , took place in the RheinMain CongressCenter, which was not yet completed at the time. The official opening and inauguration took place on April 13 and 14, 2018. After an opening ceremony and a subsequent open day , there was a concert by the band Glasperlenspiel . Around 3,500 volunteer residents of the city of Wiesbaden were invited to this. Around 30,000 visitors took advantage of the open day. The first commercial event took place the following day with a performance by the Ehrlich Brothers .

One week after the opening, the building was used for a conference for the first time - a federal party conference of the SPD .

architecture

The architectural office Ferdinand Heide from Frankfurt am Main was entrusted with the construction of the new congress and event center after an architecture competition. In terms of urban planning, the event center is to be integrated into the urban environment. The building was pre-certified in the platinum category by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) as being particularly environmentally friendly.

The building consists of two hall complexes that are connected on the ground floor and the 2nd floor. The public passage leads via a free staircase over the first floor to the back of the street.

A grandstand with 50 tiered rows of seats and 3000 seats can be set up in the large hall. In addition, a further 2,000 seats can be set up on the podium level. In the south wing there are two halls one above the other, each of which can be divided by movable partition walls. Concerning. In terms of operating and maintenance costs, there was a miscalculation, which is significantly higher every year than originally planned. The main reason is modern technology.
