Open day at Berlin-Tempelhof Airport in 1984

The open day ( TdoT ) is a day on which institutions , public facilities , companies , technical systems or similar companies are open to visitors who normally do not have access there.

The aim of such a day is to inform visitors about the facility or its areas, which are generally not open to the public , as part of public relations work . Many companies and institutions hold an "open house" on a regular basis, while others hold it once. Occasions for this are openings, anniversaries or certain external occasions, such as city festivals . This public day may be restricted: a correctional facility or the vault of a bank will only be open under security precautions.

As a rule, visiting the institution concerned is free of charge. Sometimes a supporting program or a party is organized in the respective facility for the “open door”. In addition, play opportunities for children or guided tours through various areas are occasionally offered to make a visit more interesting for those who are not involved.
