The Rheinbahnhof in Wiesbaden was a terminal station and the exit station of the Nassau Rheinbahn , today part of the right-hand Rhine route . The first section of the railway through the Rheingau to Rüdesheim was opened on August 11, 1856. The closest terminus to Wiesbaden was initially Biebrich-Mosbach station . It was not until February 11, 1857 that the extension to Wiesbaden, and thus the Rhine station there, could be put into operation.

A three-storey building in the classicist style was erected as a reception building in 1868 , replacing a previous temporary arrangement. The building was not at the front of the facility - as is usually the case with terminal stations - but to the west and parallel to the tracks and platforms . There were two other train stations in its vicinity, the Taunusbahnhof (1840) of the Taunus Railway for the route to Frankfurt am Main and the Ludwigsbahnhof (1879) of the Hessian Ludwig Railway for the Ländchesbahn to Niedernhausen and Limburg an der Lahn . Of the three reception buildings, that of the Rheinbahnhof was the most representative.

On November 15, 1889, the Langenschwalbacher Bahn (now Aartalbahn ) between the Rheinbahnhof and Langenschwalbach, later Bad Schwalbach , was put into operation.

In 1906 the three train stations were replaced by the new Wiesbaden main train station and the Rheinbahnhof was closed. The track systems were removed. The reception building of the Rheinbahnhof survived its shutdown for six decades, but was demolished in 1969 for an extension of the Rhein-Main-Halle .
