The kitchen battle is a 45-minute cooking show that has been broadcast on ZDF from Monday to Friday since January 14, 2008 .

The kitchen battle - the weekly review - was also shown on Saturday mornings until August 5, 2017 . The five days of the week were summarized in the mostly two-hour programs. Tom Vogt acted as off-speaker . On August 17, 2019, the summary returned on Saturday afternoon. The speaker is Constantin von Westphalen .

procedure

Six hobby chefs compete against each other in a kind of elimination competition every broadcast week. On Mondays the candidates cook their favorite dish, on Tuesdays a starter, on Wednesdays a main course, on Thursday in the pre-finals main course and dessert and on Friday two dishes based on the recipe of the prominent chef in each case. At the end of each program, another TV chef decides in a tasting which of the candidates has to be eliminated. The remaining players compete against each other again in the next broadcast. At times the weekly winner was allowed to appear as a prize in the program Kerner kocht or Lanz kocht! in addition to some prominent professional chefs prepare a dish, then it was only cooked by the TV chefs on the show. After the show Lanz cooks! Waved the winner as a prize to be present on the program Lafer! Lights! Delicious! , he was then cooked in this by Horst Lichter and Johann Lafer . Since 2015, the weekly winners have been competing against each other every six weeks in a qualification week, the so-called “ChampionsWeek”. The six winners of these weeks then cook against each other in the final week at the end of the year. The overall winner wins prize money of 25,000 euros.

In the Phoenixhof studios of Fernsehmacher GmbH & Co. KG in Hamburg, the programs are recorded for up to five weeks of broadcasting per recording series on five to six consecutive days and sometimes broadcast weeks later. There is often only about an hour between recordings for two days of broadcast.

Variations

On the high seas

In 2009 Die Küchenschlacht broadcast two weeks from aboard a cruise ship from the Mediterranean.

The children's kitchen fight

In the years 2009 to 2011 there was also the offshoot Die Kinder-Küchenschlacht at irregular intervals . In each show, five children cooked their favorite dishes. At the end of these programs, a TV chef decided in a tasting which of the candidates would emerge as the winner and win participation in a cooking course. These special editions were mostly broadcast on Saturday afternoons, but also on the normal broadcasting slot if a five-day broadcast was not possible due to program changes.

Advent weeks

With the motto “Coming home for cooking”, former candidates have been coming to the studio since 2015 during the Advent season. The respective weekly profit goes to a good cause.

Celebrity weeks

Celebrities have been competing in cooking at irregular intervals since 2016. The weekly winners donate prize money to a good cause.

Special weeks with star chefs

From March 23, 2020, the program had to be adapted to the circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic and the associated restrictions (no audience, keeping your distance, etc.). Instead of six amateur cooks a week, as usual, three professional cooks competed in the kitchen fight . The juror awarded three points a day for the best dish, the second received two and the third placed one point. From the week of May 4th to 8th, the number of points on the final day was doubled with 2, 4 and 6 points. At the end of the week, the chef with the most points was chosen as the winner . He received 3,000 euros, which he donated to a good cause. In the event of a tie, the sum was divided among the winners.
