Christian Brand (born May 23, 1972 in Quakenbrück ) is a German soccer coach and former soccer player .
player
The 1.74 m tall midfielder began his career at VfB Oldenburg . On August 27, 1991, the sixth game day of the 2. Bundesliga North 1991/92 , he made his debut against FC St. Pauli . He came to 13 games this season and was in nine out of ten games of the promotion round on the field. In the end, VfB Oldenburg took second place behind Bayer Uerdingen and missed promotion by one point. In the following season he completed 22 of the 46 season games. He celebrated his first goal in the 2nd Bundesliga in the 3-2 away win in Braunschweig - he scored the 1-1 in the first half. Two more goals followed this season. At the end of the season he finished 22nd in the table with Oldenburg out of 24 teams and thus rose from the second division.
Brand left Oldenburg and went to the relegated VfL Osnabrück in the Oberliga Nord . Here he played one season, then moved first to FC Bremerhaven and one season later to the amateurs of Werder Bremen .
For the 1996/97 season, Brand moved up to the Bremen team. On the second day of the match he made his debut in the top German division. Bremen coach Dixie Dörner replaced him in the home game against Hansa Rostock in the 62nd minute for Bernd Hobsch . Brand scored his first Bundesliga goal on matchday 22 in the home game against FC St. Pauli . At the end of the season he had played 23 league and three DFB Cup games. In the 1997/98 season he made 31 appearances in the Bundesliga and scored three goals; in the DFB Cup he ran twice. In his third year at Werder, Brand was rarely used due to a broken shin. He was only on the field four times, with each coming on after the 60th minute. Although he did not play in the DFB Cup, he won the German Cup with Werder this season.
For the following season 1999/2000 Brand moved within the Bundesliga to VfL Wolfsburg . Here he only came to a job and moved to Hansa Rostock in October of the same season . He played his first game for Hansa on matchday eight in the Ostseestadion against Eintracht Frankfurt . In the 3-1 win he scored his first goal for Rostock to lead them 1-0. On the tenth day of the away game in Bremen, Brand received his only expulsion from the Bundesliga, a yellow-red card in the 87th minute. By the end of the season he was only three game days away and scored two more goals. With a 2-0 away win at FC Schalke 04 , he secured relegation with FC Hansa on the last matchday. Brand scored the 2-0 with a free kick. He made four appearances in the DFB Cup this season, scored two goals and made it to the semi-finals with Hansa. Here the Mecklenburgers lost 3-2 to the eventual cup winners FC Bayern Munich . In the 2000/01 season , Brand was missing only two of the first 18 games of the season and scored two goals. In January 2001 a muscle tore in his thigh, at the end of February another muscle tore and he fell out for a long time. Only at the end of the season did he play four more games. In the following season , Brand was only substituted on four times by trainer Friedhelm Funkel until the winter break. At the beginning of 2002, Armin Veh came to the Baltic Sea as a new trainer. Brand was no longer used under him.
At the end of the season, Brand's contract with Hansa Rostock expired. Over the summer he kept fit with the amateurs of Werder Bremen and moved to the National League A for FC Luzern at the end of August 2002 . At the end of the season he was relegated with the club from the highest Swiss league to the newly founded Challenge League . Here he played for FC Luzern until 2004. He then moved within the league to SC Kriens and played here for two more seasons. Brand ended his career at the end of the 2005/06 season.
