Björn Freitag (born June 14, 1973 in Gelsenkirchen ) is a German cook , television presenter , restaurateur and cookbook author .

Career

Björn Freitag completed an apprenticeship in cooking at Schachener Hof in Lindau (Lake Constance) after graduating from high school . He then worked in the restaurant "Die Ente vom Lehel" in Wiesbaden and in the "Brückenkeller" in Frankfurt am Main . After his father's death, at the age of 23, he took over his parents' restaurant “Goldener Anker” in Dorsten .

Freitag has also been working as a television chef for a number of years, including cooking on tm3 from 2000 to 2001 for the program Echt Scharf . From March 2008 to the end of 2009 he was regularly seen in the program Das Fast Food-Duell on the television station kabel eins . He also cooks in irregular alternation with Mario Kalweit for the afternoon show Daheim und Unterwegs on WDR . Since July 2010 he can be seen as a presenter in the television program Der Vorkoster of the WDR television and the SWR / WDR school television. Since October 2012 he has hosted the program Freitag tables on WDR television with the subtitle “The secrets of the food industry”, in which a special focus is placed on the manufacturing processes in the food industry. He has been the presenter and juror of the ZDF cooking show Küchenschlacht since autumn 2013. From 2013 he moderated the cooking show simple & delicious on WDR television. Since 2010, Freitag has also been the team chef at FC Schalke 04 .

In September 2015 he and his wife Anna took part in the RTL dance show Stepping Out .

Awards

Since 2001 the “Goldener Anker” restaurant has been awarded one star in the Michelin Guide under the management of Fridays . At the time, Freitag was the youngest head chef in a restaurant in Germany that was decorated with a star. The Gault-Millau awarded 14 points in 2008, and in 2013 the restaurant was awarded 15 points.

Björn Freitag has been married to the actress, model and presenter Anna Groth, a former Miss Lower Saxony, since 2013, with whom he had been in a steady relationship since 2010. After a temporary separation, the two have been together again since the end of August 2017.
