Dieter Müller (born July 28, 1948 in Auggen ) is a German chef whose restaurant was awarded three Michelin stars from 1997 to 2008 . Mediterranean, French and Asian influences combine in his cooking style.

biography

Dieter Müller comes from a family of restaurateurs, his older brother Jörg Müller is also a chef. Dieter Müller completed his cooking apprenticeship with distinction in 1966 and then worked for two years in his parents' company "Lug ins Land" in Raich in the southern Black Forest until he was called up to serve in the Bundeswehr . After six months of service, he has already received an award for the best Bundeswehr kitchen.

After military service he developed his skills at the Hotel Schweizerhof of Ernesto Schlegel in Bern until he after a stopover on Corfu in 1973 the team of his brother in the Schweizer Stuben in Wertheim-Bettingen met, the 1981-1983 and Hans Stefan Steinheuer belonged as Sous Chef . He received his first Michelin star back in 1974 and has been a certified master chef since 1976. In 1977 the restaurant was awarded two Michelin stars.

In 1983 Jörg Müller went to Sylt; Dieter Müller held the two Michelin stars. In 1988 he published his first book Das Dieter Müller Kochbuch , which was awarded the gold medal of the German Gastronomic Academy the following year . From 1990 to 1992 he cooked in Japan, Australia, USA, France and Thailand, among others.

From February 1992 to February 2008 he was head chef and patron of the gourmet restaurant Dieter Müller in the Schlosshotel Lerbach in Bergisch Gladbach , which was awarded one Michelin star in 1992, two in 1994 and three in 1997; after Herbert Schönberner and Helmut Thieltges, he was the third German whose restaurant received this award. Since 2005 he has also run a cooking school here. In July 2005 he was the first German chef to christen a rose in his name. In February 2008 he handed over the kitchen management of his restaurant to Nils Henkel . In December 2009, Müller left the Schlosshotel Lerbach.

In September 2010 he opened a restaurant on the cruise ship Europa , where he is on board 70 days a year. Since 2011 he has been President of Chef of the Year , a competition for professional chefs from Germany, Austria , Switzerland and South Tyrol . The preselection of the cooking competition takes place in different cities and the final every two years during Anuga in autumn.

Since the end of 2018, Müller has been the driving force behind a new restaurant in the Ritz-Carlton in Berlin . In February 2019 it was announced that the cooperation with HL Cruises will end in October 2019 and that Dieter Müller's restaurant on the MS Europa will close.

Private life

Dieter Müller has three children with his wife Birgit. His wife managed the service of his restaurant in the Schlosshotel Lerbach. The couple live in Odenthal .

Awards

Müller's culinary art has brought him numerous awards. He was “Cook of the Year” by the Gault-Millau restaurant guide in 1987 and the gourmet magazine Der Feinschmecker in 1998.

His restaurant has had three Michelin stars since 1997 , and Gault-Millau awarded it 19.5 points. In 2004 the Feinschmecker rated his restaurant as “perfect in every way”.

He was the first German to receive the Prix ​​la Mazille International cookbook prize for his cookbook, Secrets from My Three-Star Kitchen , published in 2000. In 2003 he received the highest gastronomic award in the USA, the Five Star Diamond Award .

In 2009 he received the Eckart Witzigmann Prize of the German Academy for Culinary Studies for his life's work.
