The Hotel Schweizerhof is a luxury hotel in Bern . It is located at Bern train station and belongs to the hotel group The Leading Hotels of the World .
history
The hotel was founded in 1857 under the name Hotel Fetzer . In 1859 Daniel Vogel gave it its current name and combined it with the neighboring Zähringerhof . In 1911 the hotel building was demolished and reopened in July 1913.
In 1939 a period of prosperity began under Jack Gauer's hotel management; today's Jack's Brasserie reminds of him. Many celebrities were guests in the 1950s, for example Grace Kelly , Elizabeth Taylor , Peter Ustinov and Albert Schweitzer . From the 1960s to 1976, Ernesto Schlegel was head chef. In 2009 a two-year, extensive renovation began.
Today the Hotel Schweizerhof, like the Bürgenstock Resort, belongs to the Bürgenstock Selection , in which the Barwa Real Estate Company from the emirate of Qatar has a half share.
