Sarah Wiener (born August 27, 1962 in Halle , Westphalia ) is a German - Austrian entrepreneur , television cook , author and politician . In the 2019 election to the European Parliament , she ran as a non-party member of the Austrian Greens and was elected as a member of parliament.

Sarah Wiener - daughter of Oswald Wiener and the visual artist Lore Heuermann  - grew up with her mother in Vienna ; the parents lived separately. At the age of seventeen Sarah Wiener left a girls boarding school and then hitchhiked through Europe, where she made her way with odd jobs. After all , as a 24-year-old she lived with her son in Berlin , who had neither a school leaving certificate nor vocational training . She initially received social assistance , later worked as a waiter in the Axbax restaurant and worked in the kitchen of the Exil restaurant in Berlin-Kreuzberg , which belonged to her father. There she baked cakes and tarts in the mornings and then sold them. She also cooked for the staff of an advertising agency. In 1987, Wiener began a martial arts career and in 1991 and 1992 became the Berlin city ​​champion in full contact Taekwondo .

In 1990 she founded the company Sarah Wieners Tracking Catering (now Hof Lieferanten Berlin) : She took out a loan, bought a discarded W50 kitchen car from the NVA and began working on a film in Poland. Over time, she became known in the industry and catered for film crews at home and abroad with her mobile kitchen. In Austria, for example, she took over the catering at Nordrand .

Sarah Wiener GmbH was founded in 2004 . It is based in Berlin and Hamburg and operates the above-mentioned restaurants and an event catering service with currently more than two hundred employees. In the Wiener Brot wood-fired bakery in Berlin, baked goods from the stone oven fired with Brandenburg robinia wood are sold.

Television appearances

In this documentary series, Wiener spends the summer with twelve children from different European countries on a country estate in Provence, teaches them how to cook and tries to bring them closer to the joy of natural nutrition. She also had a cameo on the 2009 television series The Little Man .

In 2013, Wiener set out in ten episodes of Sarah Wiener's first choice in search of the basis of various foods such as grain, oil, meat, honey, or fish. The travels took her across Europe. There was another continuation of the culinary adventure in 2014. This time she traveled through Asia.

In 2014 she had a small role in the improv comedy show Hotel Heimat: Please disturb! by Ralf Schmitz as the cook of Ralf's neighbor Sina. In December 2016 she made a guest appearance in the ARD telenovela Rote Rosen .

On February 17, 2019, Sarah Wiener announced her application for second place on the list of the Austrian party The Greens - The Green Alternative in the 2019 European elections . The Green Party Congress confirmed Wiener for second place.
