The reason for this is the 150th anniversary of Gut Flickenschild . It was there that Sydney met Mathis Segert, the husband of her cousin Anja and current commander of the Lüneburg volunteer fire brigade , and found him likable, although she was married to Jeff Parker at the same time. After Mathis Sydney saves her life in a fire at the Flickenschild estate , she spends more time with it, which makes Jeff jealous. When it comes out that he is working illegally on a joint hotel project of theirs, he goes into hiding without a trace and empties Sydney's accounts. During this financial crisis she received support from Mathis, Gunter and Merle, among others. Sydney realizes that she has apparently fallen in love with Mathis. The two finally dare a relationship.

When Anja appears shortly afterwards in Lüneburg, Dr. Britta Berger realizes that she urgently needs a donor liver due to her rheumatism. Sydney turns out to be a suitable donor. But since a donation from a deceased patient is found, Sydney no longer has to donate. But unfortunately Anja dies shortly afterwards. The deeply shaken Mathis then accuses Sydney that Anja would still be alive if she had donated part of her liver. She then turns away from him indignantly, although both feel that they are still in love with each other. Some time later, Sydney's older stepdaughter Victoria (called "Vicky") Parker turns up in Lüneburg and reports that Jeff has been arrested on the American - Canadian border. She also urges Sydney to help her father. However, she refuses because she wants to divorce Jeff. Vicky feels the lust for Rachel against Sydney and allies herself with the at least as scheming hotel owner Holger Mielitzer. Mielitzer wants revenge on the Flickenschilds because Gunters and Sydney's father Wilhelm Flickenschild once took away from his family the Three Kings , which originally belonged to them, in his eyes.

Together with Vicky Parker, Mielitzer wants to make Gunter doubt his own abilities and then think it would be best to sell the Three Kings . A short time later, the two succeeded and Mielitzer made Gunter a tempting offer to sell the Three Kings to him. Just at the moment when Gunter wants to sign the contract, Sydney comes back from the USA, where she absolutely had to speak to Jeff. Both Vicky and Mielitzer don't fit into the concept at all. Shortly afterwards, Gunter, who learns that Sydney plans to stay in Lüneburg permanently, decides to transfer 50% of the hotel shares to his half-sister. He also appointed her hotel manager shortly afterwards. In addition to the circumstances at the hotel, Vicky is still mad at Sydney for not wanting to help Jeff with a false statement. Therefore, she sets herself the goal of making Sydney life in Lüneburg hell. Mielitzer, who finds Sydney more and more interesting, a short time later reveals his plan to Vicky to want to marry Sydney.

Since Mielitzer does not want to deviate from this plan, he seeks her close and cleverly asks Vicky about Sydney. Mielitzer, who keeps approaching Sydney, is initially rejected by her. Some time later there is another problem: Merle happened to see Mielitzer giving Vicky money. When she told Sydney about this a little later, she believed that Mielitzer was doing business with her stepdaughter. When Sydney confronts Holger Mielitzer with her suspicions, the latter can dispel her doubts by telling her a lie. A little later, Mielitzer invites Sydney to spend a nice evening with him in a Lüneburg museum that he has rented for himself and Sydney. Sydney gladly accepts the invitation. The next time Sydney and Mathis meet, they feel that they still have feelings for each other. So Sydney decides to distance himself from Holger Mielitzer again.

Since Vicky is always looking for ways to harm Sydney, she plans to pretend she had spent a night with Mathis and Mathis did not fight it. She boldly puts her plan into action and tells Sydney this lie. When Sydney tells Mathis about it and leaves him with no doubt why she shouldn't believe Vicky, Mathis realizes that Sydney doesn't love him enough and that he sees no more chance for her love. Vicky is happy that Sydney trusts her blindly. In order to take even more revenge on Sydney, she demands that she should give her more percentages in the boutique. When Sydney asks for time to think it over, she threatens to go back to the USA and leave her alone with everything in the boutique. Sydney then promises Vicky to find a solution that is good for all parties. Unfortunately, Gunter does not meet with enthusiasm for this suggestion. He thinks that he cannot trust Vicky enough because he hardly knows her. When Sydney then tells her stepdaughter that Gunter does not trust her enough, she decides to once again harm her stepmother by giving her falsified evidence. These prove that Sydney hired the illegal workers in the USA back then. Furthermore, she tries to win Mielitzer for her plans for revenge, but he does not want to be harnessed because he is sticking to his plan to marry Sydney. When this intrigue fails, as Mielitzer can detect and remove the forgeries in time, Vicky decides to secure the trademark rights to 4 Queens , the Three Kings boutique , before Sydney can do so.

When Vicky is supposed to leave the Hanseatic city under pressure after a vicious act of revenge against the mayor, with whom she was for a short time, she hatefully confesses to her stepmother before she leaves that she and Mathis had never spent a night together. So soon afterwards Sydney visits Mathis and confesses that Vicky has confessed the truth to her and that she now knows that she and Mathis were not in bed. But he only takes note of this and does not pay any further attention, as his trust in Sydney is more than shaken. Eliane da Silva, who has had an eye on Mathis for a long time, confesses her love for him shortly afterwards, but she senses that Mathis is still very attached to Sydney and ends the relationship.

After her separation from Mathis has become a fact for her, Sydney notices that Holger Mielitzer is discreetly promoting her. Later she and Holger get closer and closer and begin a solid relationship. Mathis, too, suddenly develops stronger feelings for Eliane, who is still interested in him. Later, the two also begin a steady relationship with each other. When Sydney accepts a marriage proposal from Holger some time later and the two want to get married, Mathis gets a big pang and he then doubts his feelings for Eliane. Gunter is slowly coming to terms with the fact that Sydney wants to marry Holger. But at a meeting with Holger in the culture barn, the two men get into an argument and Gunter falls unfavorably to the ground. Holger panics and thinks that Gunter is already dead. After a while, Holger confesses to Patrick that he set the fire in the culture barn and asks him not to go to the police. Patrick gives him the chance to report it to the police himself. But Holger wants to talk to Sydney first and confess to her what he has done. Sydney is shocked and rejects Holger. This captivates Sydney to have enough head start to leave the country. Mathis manages to free Sydney a short time later. Merle and Gunter plan to travel with Sydney to give them other thoughts. At the airport, however, they are surprised by Holger Mielitzer. He threatens her with a gun and forces Merle to help him escape. Before the plane can take off, Patrick arrives at the airport and prevents her from taking off. Holger is arrested by the police. Sydney and Mathis get closer again. Both notice that they still feel very connected to each other. They decide to go to Portugal together.

Patrick learns that his father was killed in an accident with the prisoner van. He believes the Flickenschild and Mielitzers' past was to blame for his father's death. In order to accommodate the Mielitzer family, Sydney is giving half of its hotel shares to the Three Kings . The fronts between Gunter and Patrick harden. At his father's grave, Patrick swears to bring the Three Kings back into the Mielitzer family's possession.

Sydney receives the offer to run a dreamlike pousada near Porto . But Sydney and Mathis would have to say goodbye to Lüneburg permanently. Sydney finds it very difficult, but Mathis supports her in making her dream come true. Merle and Gunter prepare a historic farewell party for Sydney and Mathis. The farewell party was a great success and Sydney decides to give Gunter the rest of the hotel. Now Sydney and Mathis can travel carefree to their future together in Portugal .
