Joana Zimmer (born October 27, 1982 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German singer .
Life
Joana Zimmer, who is blind from birth , lived with her family in the United States and the United Kingdom . At the age of four she returned to Germany with her family . She graduated from high school in 1999 at the Brandenburg School for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Königs Wusterhausen .
Already at the age of 15 Zimmer performed in various jazz clubs in Berlin . With the help of the money she saved herself, she made a demo recording with which she applied to record studios and finally got under contract with Universal Music .
In spring 2005 she released her debut single, I Believe (Give a Little Bit) , with which Joana Zimmer was able to place herself in the charts in several countries. The cover version of a hit by Marcella Detroit from 1993 reached number two in the German single charts in May 2005.
For the debut album My Innermost the artist known producers and songwriters as have Burt Bacharach , Andreas Carlsson, Gary Barlow , Dietmar Kawohl and Nik Kershaw songs written. The second single I've Learned to Walk Alone was released on August 29, 2005 and reached number 38 in the single charts. Their third single, Let's Make History , was penned by Team3 . The ballad is a duet with the successful Latin singer David Bisbal and reached number 53 in the German single charts.
On the CD Come Together - a tribute to BRAVO , released in 2006, she interprets the Art-Garfunkel hit Bright Eyes . For launched in November 2006 ARD - telenovela Red roses she sings the theme song This Is My Life .
The second album, The Voice in Me , was released on December 29, 2006. Like the first album, it was produced in the LaCarr Studios in Stockholm by Nick Nice and Pontus Söderqvist. Well-known songwriters such as Desmond Child , Rick Nowels, Marjorie Maye & Andy Marvel, Richard “Biff” Stanard and Alex Geringas contributed titles to the second album .
In addition to her work as a singer, Zimmer has also been on the catwalk as a model. Zimmer is also an ambassador for the Christoffel Mission for the Blind . In 2004 the singer took part in the Berlin Marathon .
On May 30, 2008, the third album was released under the title Showtime . Joana Zimmer interprets her favorite songs from the 1970s and 1980s on it. Tracks from Billy Joel to George Michael have been rearranged by UK producers such as Brio Taliaferro ( Sugababes , James Blunt ), Pete Kirtley ( Mutya Buena , Monrose ) and Valicon ( Silbermond ). She recorded tracks with Xavier Naidoo , Stefan Gwildis and Boyz II Men . The album was produced in London and Berlin . Songs from the new album were presented live at five benefit concerts (until October 2008) for the CBM. On October 25, she also sang at the Berlin Tempelhof Airport at the charity gala “Bye bye Tempelhof” in favor of Kinderleben e. V.
In 2009 Joana Zimmer could be seen in numerous live performances in Germany. On August 23rd she performed at the Fantastival in Dinslaken together with the Ahn-Trio, and on August 29th she performed at the Louis Braille Festival in Hanover . Among other things, she lived in the spring for six weeks in the house of Marcella Detroit , the songwriter of I Believe , and for several months in Nashville to work on new songs. Songwriter Toby Gad ( If I Were a Boy , Big Girls Don't Cry ) and songwriter Diane Warren ( Un-Break My Heart , I Don't Want to Miss a Thing ) sent her songs, which she published in New York recorded. She is also working in New York on the recordings for the song Lost in the Crowd , the theme song for a film. In October she shot a guest appearance in the telenovela Rote Rosen . In April 2010 she appeared again in the series and also presented her single Till You're Gone , which was released in mid-June 2010.
Zimmer's album Miss JZ was released on June 25, 2010 on Edel Records. In the ARD docu-soap “ Crazy About the Sea ” the singer can be seen in several episodes towards the end of the second season.
In 2012, Joana Zimmer took part in the RTL program Let's Dance as a candidate, where she was eliminated in the 9th show in the quarter-finals. Her professional dance partner was Christian Polanc . In March 2012, their album Not Looking Back was released. The first single from it had its premiere in the ultimate Chart Show and is a cover of Bryan Adams ' Everything I Do .
