Cruise ship Artania (2014)
Crazy About the Sea is a documentary series by ARD about the everyday life of guests and crew on board some German cruise ships. The series was first broadcast in January 2010 in the afternoon program in Das Erste .
So far, eight seasons with 20–70 episodes each have been released. The ninth season has been aired since November 13, 2019. A tenth season is scheduled to start in winter 2019/20 and summer 2020.

Crazy About the Sea is a travel documentary and allows a look behind the scenes of a cruise ship . For this, both crew members and passengers are accompanied with the camera. The focus is typically on two pairs of guests per trip segment as well as some interns who stay on board for several trip segments. At the same time, the daily work and, in some cases, the leisure time of the crew, the tour guide team and the artists on board are shown. The guests and interns are selected by the production company from several applications in advance of each season.
According to the production company, the series is not scripted and works with classic documentary means.
Ships
All previously published seasons were recorded on board the ships of the Bonn tour operator Phoenix Reisen .
The "main actor" of the first three seasons and in many later seasons is Albatros , which seats 800 passengers and is also called "White Lady" in the series. The fourth to sixth season was filmed exclusively on Artania (max. 1,200 passengers, also called "Grand Lady"). Then voyages of both ships were discussed in each season. In season 9 Amera (835 passengers) is added as the third ship, while season 10 only accompanies trips by Albatros and Amera . The change from Artania to Amera should actually take place with the tenth season, but at the request of Phoenix Reisen, the ninth season was extended by 10 episodes with the new ship (including the maiden voyage) in August 2019.
From September 2019, ARD will have another production company shoot more seasons of Crazy About the Sea on the Hamburg (400 passengers) of the Bremen operator Plantours Kreuzfahrten. This is intended to cover destinations that are not covered by the Phoenix ships, e.g. B. the Great Lakes or the Antarctic.

Crazy About the Sea has been produced by ARD since 2009 in cooperation with Bewte Zeiten Filmproduktion GmbH . Bayerischer Rundfunk is in charge of production for ARD . Producers are Julia Jancsó, Stephan Rebelein, Frank Jansen (Turbulent Times), the editors are Stefanie Baumann, Stefan Gundel (BR). Executive producers are Birgitta Kaßeckert and Andreas M. Reinhard (BR).
The company Fandango FILM-TV-Internet-Produktion from Cologne-based producer Geronimo Beckers was hired for the recordings at Hamburg from 2019 .
Shooting details
Moving Times usually shoots with three to four teams, each consisting of three people: cameraman, sound engineer, director. One team is responsible for filming the processes on board, which concerns the ship's crew and supplies, a second team focuses on the passengers and guest stars, and team 3 is responsible for the parallel stories and preparatory processes in the countries.
