Phoenix Reisen is a German tour operator based in Bonn . The company offers cruises on five ocean-going vessels as well as numerous river cruise ships.

history

The company Phoenix Reisen was founded in 1973 by Johannes Zurnieden as a travel company for city trips. In 1988 Phoenix started in the cruise sector with the Maxim Gorkiy , which she chartered from a Soviet company for 20 years. In 1993 a second ship joined the Phoenix Reisen fleet, the first Albatros , built as Sylvania in 1957 and chartered by V.Ships . Unlike the Maxim Gorkiy , this time the ship was painted in Phoenix colors with the characteristic turquoise-colored funnel. In the same year one began to operate river boats. In 2016 Phoenix Reisen had 33 river boats in its program.

After various mechanical problems, Phoenix Reisen terminated the Albatros charter prematurely in December 2003. As a replacement, the Crown was chartered in January 2004, which was renamed Albatros .

In 2005, the third ship, built in 1996 as Minerva , was chartered and used under the name of Alexander von Humboldt . A fourth ship was added in 2006 with the Amadea charter . In 2008 the first Alexander von Humboldt was replaced by a larger ship chartered by Club Cruise , which was also named Alexander von Humboldt . At the end of 2008 the charter of Maxim Gorkiy ended and due to high fuel prices and high consumption of this ship, the charter was not extended. In May 2009 Phoenix Reisen chartered the Athena from Nina SpA, which was built as Stockholm in 1946 . In April 2011, the shipping company took over Artania , which previously operated as Artemis for P&O Cruises .

Phoenix Reisen has chartered Germany from May to September since 2016 and until 2025 .

In 2018 Phoenix Reisen bought the Prinsendam from Holland-America Line . It was taken over in July 2019 and renamed Amera and is to be used for cruises from August of that year.

For the ARD rotating Bayerische Rundfunk since 2009 with the production company Turbulent Times on the Albatross, Artania and Amera the TV documentary series Mad About Sea .

The company employs (as of July 2011) around 100 people at its headquarters in Bonn and around 100 tour guides on the ships.
