The Amera is a cruise ship built in 1988 by the Wärtsilä Marine Perno shipyard in Turku / Finland as the Royal Viking Sun for the Royal Viking Line . Today she drives for Phoenix Reisen .

history

The launch of the Royal Viking Sun took place on March 17, 1988 at the Wärtsilä shipyard in Turku. On November 26, 1988, it was delivered to the Royal Viking Line, which used it for cruises . The Royal Viking Sun sailed under the flag of the Bahamas with home port Nassau.

In mid-1994 the ship was sold to the Cunard Line and initially operated without a name change. The Royal Viking Sun was transferred to Cunard in the course of the merger of Cunard Line and Seabourn Cruise Line under the parent company Carnival Corporation at the end of April 2000 and renamed to Seabourn Sun in May 2000 without any further change of ownership and continued to be operated by Seabourn Cruise Line . The Seabourn Sun sailed under the Norwegian flag with home port Oslo. In mid-2002 the ship went to the American cruise shipping company Holland America Line (HAL), based in Seattle that the ship as Prinsendam operation. Home port was Rotterdam / Netherlands. She was nicknamed "Elegant Explorer" by the predominantly American audience .

In 2018 the ship was sold to Phoenix Reisen and was handed over on July 1, 2019. From July 2, 2019, it was rebuilt at Blohm + Voss . On July 3, 2019, the ship was renamed Amera and sailed under the flag of the Bahamas. The renovation was completed on August 12, 2019. She was baptized in Bremerhaven on August 16, 2019 . Phoenix Reisen has been using it for cruises since August 21, 2019.

Hotel equipment

There are 425 cabins available for up to 835 passengers. These are mostly outside cabins, some with a balcony. At the stern there is a swimming pool and two whirlpools . There is a sauna , fitness studio and spa area with a hairdresser.

Four restaurants / dining rooms are available to guests. Three restaurants ( Ozean , Amera and Lido ) offer free choice of table, including the Lido with buffet meals. The Pichlers restaurant is a specialty restaurant that requires a reservation, but is included in the tour price and has its own specialty menu for lunch and dinner. There are also five bars available. There is a theater area in the prow and a meeting space with LED - Monitor on deck. 11

Technical specifications

The ship is powered by four four-stroke eight-cylinder diesel engines (Sulzer 8ZAL40S), each with an output of 5,280 kW. The motors act on two variable pitch propellers via reduction gears . The ship is equipped with two transverse thruster control systems , each with an output of 1000 kW. Two shaft generators driven by the main engines and three generators driven by four-stroke eight-cylinder diesel engines are available to generate electricity on board . An emergency generator powered by a four-stroke, twelve-cylinder diesel engine is also available.

The hull of the ship is reinforced with ice ( ice class 1C).

Trivia

The ship is the setting for the Arte report Re: Cruise and Corona, a passenger ship on the wrong track ; A camera team happened to be on board when the COVID-19 pandemic broke out.
