Ice reinforcement

Ice reinforcement is the reinforcement of the hulls of ships that are prescribed by the classification institutes , which are used in ice-prone waters . It consists in the fact that the outer skin in the area from above the deep loading line to below the empty draft is made thicker and sometimes made of steel of higher strength than in the other outer skin areas. In addition, the frames in this area are reinforced and additional bandages are built in. Ships with ice reinforcement are divided into ice classes.
