Gloria Gray

Gloria Gray (born December 22, 1965 in Zwiesel , real name: Gloria Gehring) is a German actress , singer , author , entrepreneur , model and entertainer .

Life

Gray was born in Zwiesel, Lower Bavaria, and spent her childhood and school there. After an apprenticeship , she went to Munich and later completed an acting training at the German Drama Academy .

Career beginnings

She had her first beginnings as an artist in Munich in various small off theaters, in the off and in the lesbian and lesbian gay scene, as well as at private events with travesty shows. She appeared with a friend as Twilight Girls and as Munich Follies . As of 1991, she had her own Gloria Gray show . In 1993 she was the Sat.1 - Comedy - Show Halligalli known in Germany to a wider audience. Since 1994 she has performed as a variety artist. The premiere was at the Munich Theater am Platzl , where she played over 330 performances en suite .

Gray moderated the gastro show Ganymée on water and numerous dinner varieté shows with and for chefs such as Eckart Witzigmann , Dieter Müller , Harald Wohlfahrt and Marc Haeberlin . At Circus of the Stars she appeared as a tiger - tamer on.

In 2007, Gray stood in front of the camera as a model for the photographer Folker Schellenberg for the two photo exhibitions Magic of Diversity and Women . Since October 2008, Gray has been accompanying the Giovane Elber's do Brazil dinner show as “Mistress of Ceremony”. She created the first AIDS - charity gala in Munich and regularly supports charitable events.

Performances in 2010

The Bayerische Rundfunk designed in 2010 with a Gray interview broadcast in the series BR alpha Forum and documented the entertainer and her life.

In December 2010, Gray announced her candidacy for the mayoral election in Zwiesel at the end of January 2011, but did not receive enough supporter signatures. Her candidacy was reported in various media across Germany, bringing the entertainer back into the focus of public interest.

Café Gloria 2010-2013

In the summer of 2010, Gloria Gray moved back to Zwiesel from her adopted home in Munich and opened her Café Gloria with an adjoining cabaret in an abandoned horse stable . Your move and the opening of your event café was documented and broadcast by Sat.1 as part of the 24-hour series of reports .

At the end of 2013, Gray closed her restaurant.

Artistic career since 2012

From 2012 to 2014 Gloria Gray appeared in various theaters and on cabaret stages with her Singspiel Verurzelt (director: Gerd Riffeser). In this program she focused on the connection to her homeland or to her "roots". In addition to the stage production, the Munich-based photographer Manuel Jacob staged it with the photo exhibition of the same name, And It Really Is . The Bayerische Rundfunk took the opportunity, once again broadcast a documentary about Gloria Gray, this time in the show Bergheimat.

At the Carnaval International de Maspalomas in Spain in February 2015, the Bavarian entertainer sat on the jury for Spanish television.

In the 2014/2015 season Gloria Gray was a guest in Karlsruhe in the variety show Crazy Palace . At the end of 2015 she started her show Glanz & Gloria for her 30th stage anniversary and her 50th birthday. This show was on stage for two years and was accompanied by an exhibition about the work and life of the Gray in Zwiesel.

Private

In private, Gray lived in Munich for many years before she returned to her home town of Zwiesel in 2010. In May 2006 she announced that she would marry her long-term partner in Munich's Asamkirche . The planned wedding was first arranged by the Catholic Church and then canceled again. The focus of public interest has always been on Gloria Gray's transsexuality.

Legal disputes

Gloria Gray has won several defamation lawsuits dealing with her personal past, including in 2001 against a major Munich daily that claimed she was a transvestite .

This was discussed in an interview with Wolf-Dieter Peter in the alpha forum series in 2009. When asked by Peter about the differences between transvestites and transsexuals , Gloria Gray replied:

“[…] Then there are also transsexuals who - as it was with me - do not feel comfortable in the body in which they were born. [...] "

Wolf-Dieter Peter in addition:

“Back to the lawsuit you won because you were legally confirmed that you definitely belong to the transsexual group. [...] "

This finding was not contradicted by Gloria Gray.

Candidacy in mayoral elections

In 2010 she announced her candidacy for the mayoral election of Zwiesel in January 2011, but did not receive enough supporter signatures. In 2016 she ran again in the mayoral election and this time also received the signatures required for her candidacy. In the election on November 27, 2016, without party affiliation, she got 20.12 percent of the votes cast within 6 weeks.
