Fancy (born July 7, 1946 in Munich ; actually Manfred Alois Segieth ) is a German musician , singer and music producer (the latter usually under the name Tess ). In the 1980s he had international success with various Euro disco hits.

Life

He started playing guitar at the age of twelve . Since he attended a boarding school where the enjoyment of secular music was not allowed, Fancy had to secretly listen to Ted Herold and Peter Kraus' records . At the age of 14 he went to the humanistic grammar school in Munich. During his time at high school and afterwards, he worked in various bands: as a guitarist, bassist, but mainly as a singer. With these bands he performed in numerous dance halls. However, his parents did not share Fancy's enthusiasm for music. His father only changed his mind after he recovered from a major operation.

Career

Fancy has been a producer, arranger and composer since the 1970s until today. He also sang German hits under the stage name Tess Teiges . In addition, he dealt with furnishings and decorations for bars and discos and appeared as a parodist in the revue LA GRANDE REVUE - Sandy, Mandy & Tess and as a quick-change artist and magician. Fancy was always looking for new talent, which he produced under his label Tess Productions .

In the 1970s, Fancy worked as a producer for Hansa Records under his name Tess. a. for the duo Slip with Harmony, a song by Giorgio Moroder . In 1984 he achieved his commercial breakthrough with the single Slice Me Nice . With subsequent publications such as Chinese Eyes , Get Lost Tonight and LADYO , he shaped his own style of music, the "machine beat" became his trademark. The fact that he always appeared heavily made up made him unmistakable. In 1985 Fancy was the only German pop singer and producer with Chinese Eyes and Come Inside in the top ten of the US Billboard Dance Charts: Top Ten Of The Year 1985 .

His greatest international success came in 1986 with Lady of lce and in 1988 with Flames of Love . In 1998 the LP Best Of Fancy reached the Media Control Charts as the first Fetenhits compilation. This year Fancy had two LPs in the German LP charts at the same time: Best Of Fancy on Fetenhits, Polygram / Universal and Hitparty on BMG, Jupiter Records.

For the label ZYX Records , Fancy produced numerous titles under the name Tess , u. a. In 1985 he remixed West End Girls for the Pet Shop Boys and produced Grant Miller , Paul Mc Douglas and The Hurricanes . In the 1990s he produced some pieces for Siegfried and Roy . On the album Dreams and Illusions with the music from the Las Vegas show, for which Michael Jackson also contributed a song, Fancy sang the title Magic of Your Mind under the stage name Sarmoti .

On February 18, 2000, Fancy took part in the Countdown Grand Prix 2000 , the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest , with the song We Can Move a Mountain , and finished in fifth place. He was accompanied on stage by Ikenna Amaechi and Gloria Gray

His last studio album so far, Forever Magic , was released on December 12th, 2008 and, in addition to a few new titles and cover versions , includes new recordings of older titles from the 1990s. His song Slice Me Nice was covered in 2008 by the German rapper Frauenarzt together with DJ Manny Marc and house producer Alexander Marcus under the title Florida Lady . In April 2014, Fancy released a cover version of the Beatles classic I Should Have Known Better . Fancy still gives concerts in z. B. Europe, Russia, Southeast Asia, South America and the USA.

In the 1980s Fancy appeared regularly on the ZDF hit parade . He was also seen in the Formula 1 show on ProSieben , the ZDF Sommergarten , the Carmen Nebel Show and the MDR cult program Stop & Go . In 2013 he was a participant in the reality show Promi Big Brother on Sat.1 alongside Pamela Anderson and David Hasselhoff . He left the show on September 25, 2013.

Fancy is also active as a book author. In 1999 his biography of the magicians Siegfried and Roy : A Life Of Magic appeared . Fancy's book Life Of Fancy, The Interview was published in spring 2019 in 4 languages ​​(English, Spanish, Russian and German).

In 2009 Fancy founded the German Tiger Foundation, which was dedicated to improving the quality of life for zoo tigers. The foundation has since been dissolved.
